Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management: Public preview of administrative units support

Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is introducing a public preview of administrative units support, which will allow admins to subdivide the organization into smaller units and assign specific admins or role groups to manage only the members of those units. This feature is set to rollout from late November to late December 2023. With the support of administrative units, German administrators, for example, can only create or manage policies for German users and German investigators can only investigate alerts and activities of German users. Admins can configure administrative units in Azure by adding users and groups to new or existing administrative units, and then assign these administrative units to solution admins or members of Insider Risk Management role groups from the permissions section of Microsoft Purview compliance portal. This allows restricted administrators to select only users in their administrative units when creating or editing policies that support administrative units. The solution correlates various signals to identify potential insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Built with privacy by design, this feature is pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to ensure user-level privacy.
