Announcing IPv6 Enablement for Accepted Domains
Microsoft has announced the enablement of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for Accepted Domains in Exchange Online, starting from October 1, 2024. This upgrade enhances security and performance for Exchange Online users. After the IPv6 enablement, Exchange Online will respond with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses (AAAA records) when someone tries to send an email to a user. Customers need to update their network allow-lists to include Exchange Online IPv6 endpoints to take advantage of IPv6 connectivity. Those with unique situations and require their own timeline for IPv6 enablement can opt-out of IPv6 for their Accepted Domains. However, it is essential to note that traffic moved to IPv6 will have more stringent authentication requirements. The post on M365 Admin provides more information and links to relevant resources regarding IPv6 support for Microsoft 365 services.
