Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Network share coverage and exclusion support on Mac endpoints
Microsoft is rolling out a new feature for Mac endpoints that introduces Data Loss Prevention for network shares and mapped drives to protect sensitive data. Starting early February 2025, organizations can configure DLP policies and exclusions via Microsoft Purview. This new feature also sends alerts when a policy is matched against certain actions. General availability is expected by mid-March 2025. With this addition, sensitive data in files stored in network shares and mapped network drives are given the same protection behavior as a file on a mounted hard drive. Users will be prevented from taking egress actions, such as copying to USB or clipboard, for these sensitive files. Organizations can also configure exclusions for certain network shares if desired. To prepare, organizations can get started with Data Loss Prevention in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal. This roll-out is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 410397.
