Reminder: Azure Information Protection Add-in for Office is retired

Microsoft has recently announced the retirement of the Azure Information Protection (AIP) Unified Labeling add-in for Office on April 11th, 2024. To continue receiving support, organizations must switch to the Microsoft Purview Information Protection client. This entails upgrading and deploying the new client package, which does not include the AIP Add-in for Office. After the retirement date, the AIP Unified Labeling add-in will be permanently disabled in Office, and extensions to continue using the add-in will be granted on a case-to-case basis.

Organizations must refer to the provided playbook and blog for migration steps and details to avoid any disruption. They also need to transition to the built-in labeling experience in Microsoft 365 Apps and use sensitivity labels powered by Microsoft Purview Information Protection in Office applications to continue using sensitivity labels.

If you are the owner of one or more licenses for Azure Information Protection, it is essential that you take the required actions and follow the detailed migration steps outlined in the provided playbook to avoid any disruption or loss of support.

The retirement of the AIP Unified Labeling add-in is an important development, and it is essential to keep up to date with all relevant information. For more details and FAQs on the retirement, refer to the provided blog as well as the announcement.
