Reminder: Azure Information Protection Add-in for Office retires in April

If your organization uses Azure Information Protection (AIP), you need to be aware that the AIP Unified Labeling add-in for Office will retire in April 2024. This means that if you want to keep using the Information Protection Scanner, Viewer, and File Labeler, you will need to upgrade to Microsoft Purview Information Protection client version 3.0. Additionally, sensitivity labels must transition to the built-in labeling experience in Microsoft 365 Apps. For detailed steps on how to migrate, refer to the provided playbook. Retirement milestones include the release of Microsoft Purview Information Protection client version 3.0 in April 2024, the retirement of the AIP Unified Labeling add-in on April 11th, 2024, and the permanent disabling of the AIP Unified Labeling add-in in Office on May 1st, 2024.

If your organization owns one or more licenses for AIP, you need to transition to the built-in labeling experience in Microsoft 365 Apps to continue using sensitivity labels powered by Microsoft Purview Information Protection in Office applications. For more information on migration steps and retirement FAQs, consult the provided links and playbook.
