Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Edge links on MacOS will seamlessly open
Microsoft Teams users on MacOS will soon be able to open Microsoft Edge links directly, allowing for a seamless browsing experience with authenticated profiles. This new feature is part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 414521, and will begin rolling out in late October 2024, expected to be completed by late November 2024. Admins will be able to set Edge as the default browser in Teams through policy. Users will benefit from a hassle-free browsing experience that integrates their identity and user data across Microsoft apps.
Before this rollout, users may be required to re-authenticate links in the browser, which can slow down the browsing experience. The feature will be on by default with the setting for the system default browser, but admins can control the settings and availability of this feature through policy in the Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center. If enabled, admins can choose Microsoft Edge as the browser to open web links in Teams. If this policy is disabled or not configured, web links will open in the system default browser.
This feature enhances the user experience and eliminates the need for users to switch between different profiles during browsing. The update is expected to increase productivity for Microsoft Teams users on MacOS.
