Use sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 apps when connected experiences are disabled
This post is about an update that allows organizations to disable Microsoft 365 connected experiences for privacy concerns without affecting data security policies like sensitivity labels. With this change, services associated with Microsoft Purview, like sensitivity labels and rights management, will rely on their existing security admin controls instead of being controlled by policy settings for privacy controls in Microsoft 365 apps. This update, associated with Roadmap ID 400716, will be rolled out from June to August 2024, and it only affects organizations that disable connected experiences related to Purview. In preparation for this change, organizations need to deploy Version 2407 of Microsoft 365 apps, and for organizations that want to also disable services used by Purview, they must disable the associated policy in the appropriate admin portal. Additionally, admins can disable sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 apps while continuing to use Purview policies in other workloads.
This update will have no effect on services used by Purview and is aimed at enhancing privacy control policies in Microsoft 365 apps. This way, organizations can have the flexibility to disable connected experiences related to privacy without compromising data security policies. Organizations that take advantage of this feature will still be able to utilize Microsoft Purview's services without any disruption.
