Changes coming to the Copilot experience for Windows

Microsoft Copilot on Windows is undergoing changes based on user feedback. Starting now, users with work or school accounts will access Microsoft Copilot through the Microsoft 365 app, with enterprise data protection (EDP) provided at no additional cost to users with Entra accounts. This ensures that privacy, security, and compliance controls align with those of the Microsoft 365 Copilot. The update is currently underway and is replacing the current Copilot in Windows experience. The shift to the Microsoft 365 app as the entry point for Microsoft Copilot will align with the annual Windows 11 feature update release.
The update will be launched gradually to managed PCs, beginning with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, and proceeding with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11. These changes will be applied to Windows 10 PCs the following month.
If Copilot on Windows has not been enabled in preview mode, your current preferences will be respected by the update. For those who have activated Copilot in Windows (in preview), Microsoft 365 will not be automatically pinned to the taskbar. With the update, Microsoft 365 will replace the Copilot icon in the taskbar, but users can configure the Copilot experience based on their organization's preferences. Users with work or school accounts can access Microsoft Copilot through the Microsoft 365 app, which is pre-installed on all Windows PCs.
