Changes coming to the Copilot experience for Windows
Changes are coming to the Copilot experience for Windows, aimed at providing enterprise data protection at no extra cost. As of September 24, 2024, the update will be rolled out to managed PCs, with a security update for Windows 11 scheduled for October 8th. With this update, users with work or school accounts will access Microsoft Copilot through the Microsoft 365 app. Additionally, Microsoft Copilot will offer enterprise data protection for Entra account holders, with security, privacy and compliance controls extending to Microsoft Copilot prompts and responses. Organizations should prepare for the update and adjust their settings accordingly. If your organization hasn't enabled Copilot in Windows, your existing preferences will be respected. Neither the Microsoft Copilot app nor the Microsoft 365 app will be pinned to the taskbar. If you previously activated Copilot in Windows, the Microsoft 365 app will not be automatically pinned to the taskbar; rather, users will have control over how to enable the Copilot experience within the organization.
The update will replace the current Copilot in Windows experience, and will be applied to Windows 10 PCs the following month. So, organizations using Copilot should take these changes into account in order to ensure uninterrupted access to Microsoft Copilot after the update.
