Microsoft SharePoint: New Embedded Admin role impact

Microsoft SharePoint: New Embedded Admin role impact

This article discusses the impact of the new SharePoint Embedded Administrator role on Microsoft SharePoint Embedded, which allows developers to utilize the file and document storage in Microsoft 365 for creating line-of-business or multitenant applications. With the addition of the SharePoint Embedded Administrator role, available in the Microsoft 365 admin center, Global Administrators can continue to manage SharePoint Embedded applications, but the SharePoint admin role will lose the ability to execute SharePoint Embedded application and container-specific cmdlets after the rollout of the new role integration in mid-March 2024. From that point forward, only Global Administrators or SharePoint Embedded Administrators will be able to execute these cmdlets. The rollout is expected to begin in early March 2024 and continue through late March 2024 for the Public Preview and mid-April 2024 to early May 2024 for the Standard Release. Admins who want to create a new container type or register SharePoint Embedded applications for use should be assigned the Global Administrator or SharePoint Embedded Administrator role. To prepare, assign the existing Global Admin role or the new SharePoint Embedded Admin role available in early March.
