Topic migration update and enhancements rolling out in Viva Engage

Viva Engage customers were informed about the General Availability of Viva Topics in January 2023, and topic migrations for Viva Engage networks in Native mode began in support of this change. The topic migrations will continue until all Viva Engage networks have migrated to Viva Topics, and in June 2023, a set of enhancements and fixes will be released to support the migration of topics, including revisions to data export and API behavior. The migration to Viva Topics is important because it leverages a more robust and secure infrastructure for Viva Engage topics, making community-sourced knowledge accessible across organizations and supporting a consistent topics experience in Microsoft 365. There is no need for admins to take action, as migrations are already in progress for all Viva Engage networks in Native mode, and all existing topics will be migrated to ensure quality topic experiences. In case of topics applied to less than 10 Viva Engage conversations or with no usage in the last 18 months, they will still be migrated but will not be surfaced in topic picking experiences. The enhancements and fixes for Viva Engage are rolling out beginning mid-June 2023 and expected to complete by mid-July.

If an organization is not using premium Viva Topics experiences, the use of topics in Viva Engage will appear the same before and after topic migration. However, for organizations using Viva Topics, they will gain the premium benefits, such as topic cards in Yammer (Viva Engage), Viva topic pages, and centralized topic management. Admins do not need to take any action, as migrations will happen in the backend system used to store Topics and all existing topics will be migrated.
