Microsoft Viva: Use of Viva Topics in Viva Engage Grants Visibility of Topic Names

Recently, Microsoft announced the General Availability of Viva Topics in Viva Engage (Yammer) to customers. As part of this transition, all posts in Viva Engage including conversations, questions, polls, announcements, and storyline posts are considered Viva Topic resources. This means that all users who have access to posts in Viva Engage will be able to view the topic names applied to those posts in Engage as well as in other Viva Topics experiences in Microsoft 365, such as topic cards and pages. This migration supports a consistent topics experience across Microsoft 365 and facilitates the sharing of community-sourced knowledge throughout an organization. For organizations using premium Viva Topics experiences, the migration to Viva Engage will offer premium benefits, including topic cards, Viva topic pages, and centralized topic management.

The rollout for this feature will begin in late August 2023 and will continue to roll out to all Viva Engage networks by late September 2023. All users with access to posts in Viva Engage will automatically be able to see the topic names applied to those posts, and users can view the name in the Viva Engage topic picker and search experiences in Viva Engage. However, users must have pre-existing access to a topic to apply it to a post, and users who had access to the topic will not gain access to other resources associated with the topic.

This development is part of Microsoft's efforts to streamline and enhance their services, ensuring that users get a more seamless experience making the sharing of knowledge easy within an organization.
