Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Service side auto-labeling shifts scoping of OneDrive workload to users/groups

Microsoft's Purview compliance portal is undergoing changes to its auto-labeling feature, with OneDrive user and group scoping coming to the fore. The previous implementation used site URLs for scoping OneDrive workloads, but the new feature will provide greater control and easier configuration for admins, allowing them to switch policies from URLs to users and groups. Preview rollout of user support in OneDrive starts in June 2023, with group support following shortly after, and standard rollout is expected to complete by the end of July.

This will impact administrators who will need to update their policies to switch to OneDrive users/groups by removing all sites from the picker and saving, and then re-configuring OneDrive locations to show the new picker with the users/groups option. Existing auto-labeling policies that use OneDrive site URLs will need to be reconfigured using the new user/group support.
