Microsoft Purview compliance portal has rolled out an update that enhances file type coverage for DLP (Data Loss Prevention) on Windows endpoints. This update increases the file type coverage from the current 40 to 100+ types, making it consistent with other locations such as SharePoint, Exchange, and OneDrive. It also includes other improvements like detecting labels from files, detecting sensitive content in metadata, and detecting sensitive content in PDF forms. This update is in preview until January CY2024, and the release phase is set for General Availability in March CY2024. It is accessible in the Web Cloud Instance platform, and the Roadmap ID is 171586.
For those who handle sensitive data, the update is a significant improvement that strengthens data protection. By expanding the type of files that can undergo DLP scanning, Microsoft Purview can help prevent data loss and strengthen compliance. As a result, businesses that use this portal can gain peace of mind knowing their data is protected.
