Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: Update to Office Add-ins Store policy for minor users

Microsoft is updating its Office Add-ins Store policy to allow minor users to access it in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for Windows desktop and web users, as long as they are not blocked by tenant administrators. The rollout will begin in late October 2024, with general availability details to follow. Educational tenant administrators will need to adjust settings to control minor students' access to the store. The new Office Add-ins Store will continue to support users in exploring, installing, and managing Office Add-ins provided by Microsoft and third parties. The update will allow minor users to install Office Add-ins from the Office Add-ins Store, without being permanently blocked from it. The change will affect Windows desktop and web users, while the age group property can be configured at Microsoft Entra admin center. The general availability date will be announced in the future with a new message center post. Organizations should review their current configuration and notify users about this change.

For educational tenant administrators, ensure the user's license type is set to student.
