Synapse Database Templates General Availability and new Synapse Database Templates for Healthcare
We’re pleased to announce today that Synapse Database Templates are now Generally Available and that we are also making available three additional Synapse Database Templates for Healthcare Insurance, Healthcare Providers, and R&D and Clinical Trials.
The Healthcare Insurance template is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations providing insurance to cover healthcare needs (sometimes known as Payors).
The Healthcare Providers template is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations providing healthcare services.
The R&D and Clinical Trials template is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations involved in research and development and clinical trials of pharmaceutical products and devices.
The addition of these three new Synapse Database Templates is in response to the continued enthusiastic adoption of the fifteen Synapse Database Templates which were made available in public preview in late 2021 and early 2022.
These templates complement the previously released Synapse Database Templates for Genomics and Pharmaceuticals and, from an insurance perspective, they complement the previously released Synapse Database Templates for Property & Casualty Insurance and Life Insurance & Annuities. All eighteen database templates can now be accessed in Azure Synapse, either in the Gallery or by creating a new lake database from the Data tab and selecting + Table and then From template.
Synapse database templates typically contain coverage of many different “business areas”, some very industry-specific and others cross-industry, that together comprise each of these very large industry-specific data models. For example, in addition to comprehensive industry-specific business areas such as Patient, Service Provider, and Encounters & Claims in the Synapse Database Template for Healthcare Providers, most Synapse Database Templates also include cross-industry business areas such as Accounting & Financial Reporting, Human Resources, Inventory, and an Emissions business area which provides support for data used to report greenhouse gas emissions (including scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 emissions), an area of significant focus for many of our large customers.
The new Synapse Database Templates for Healthcare and a new version of the previously published Synapse Database Template for Banking, which is also being made available as part of this release, have been aligned with upcoming versions of the Industry Cloud for Healthcare and the Industry Cloud for FSI respectively to make it easier for our customers using Microsoft’s Industry Cloud solutions to land data from those applications, along with data from their organization’s other applications and data sources, for integration into a comprehensive lake database deployed using the Synapse Database Templates.
