Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online – Autodiscover Protocol

Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online – Autodiscover Protocol

In an effort to further enhance security measures, Basic authentication for the Autodiscover protocol will be turned off in Exchange Online. This move is in line with the previous deprecation of Basic authentication for other protocols, which started on October 1, 2022. The Autodiscover service is widely used by Outlook, Exchange ActiveSync, and Exchange Web Services apps to automatically establish connections. After Basic authentication is turned off for Autodiscover, there is no longer a need to enable this feature, and it will be disabled to protect your tenant.

Disabling Basic authentication for Autodiscover will only occur after Basic authentication for all other protocols have been permanently disabled. The protocol itself is not being turned off, only the ability to authenticate using just a username and password. To learn more, refer to the blog post provided in the related link. It is important to prepare for this change and take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted service.
