Basic Authentication Deprecation in Exchange Online – September 2022 Update

Microsoft has announced that it will begin to phase out basic authentication in certain protocols in Exchange Online over the next few months. Starting on October 1, 2022, tenants will begin to lose access to services like MAPI, RPC, and more. Though this may be a difficult transition, it’s important to note that SMTP AUTH will remain active, so users can continue to send and receive email without issue.

If you’re unsure whether your organization is ready for this change, Azure AD Sign-In logs can help you take stock of which clients and applications will be impacted. Microsoft will also be sending out usage reports in August and September. To learn more about what steps you can take to make the most of this transition, check out Microsoft’s documentation and latest blog posts.
