Business Connectivity Services (BCS) retirement

Microsoft has announced its plan to retire the Business Connectivity Services (BCS) in Microsoft 365 and replace it with Microsoft Power Apps as the new technology for integrating external data sources. The retirement timeline for BCS will occur in stages, with full retirement set for September 30, 2024. Retiring BCS means that features such as external lists, external columns, external content types, and Business Connectivity Services hybrid solutions will no longer function after September 30, 2024. Organizations currently using BCS should review and assess the impact of the retirement and explore adopting Power Apps as a replacement. Although there's no direct migration from BCS to Power Apps, it provides a modern, cloud-first external data connectivity experience and can integrate with a range of Microsoft 365 services and external data sources through its extensible connector technology. Power Apps also supports integrating with on-premises data sources through the on-premises data gateway. So if you're currently using BCS, it's essential to take action and prepare for the shift to Power Apps before September 30, 2024.
