Microsoft Teams: Brand impersonation protection for Teams Chat

Microsoft Teams: Brand impersonation protection for Teams Chat

Microsoft Teams is introducing an advanced security feature to identify and warn users of potential brand impersonation during initial interactions from external domains. The feature will be automatically enabled and users will be alerted with high-risk warnings when detecting impersonation. This new security feature will be available from late October 2024 for Targeted Release and mid-November 2024 for General Availability. Users will also be prompted to check for suspicious name/email and proceed with caution. This new feature aims to enhance external collaboration security and it will not require any admin configuration. Before the rollout, Teams external access allowed users to receive messages from external domains without scanning the sender for impersonation risks. After this rollout, Microsoft Teams will check for potential impersonation risk, show a high-risk warning in the Accept/Block flow if required, and prompt users with potential risks before accepting messages.

This new security feature on Microsoft Teams aims to protect users against brand impersonation and phishing attacks, giving them more confidence in external communication. The rollout phases start in October 2024 and finish in November 2024 and will be done automatically without any admin configuration.
