Microsoft Teams is introducing an extended directory for Teams Connect chat which allows IT admins to create an external directory of known collaborators by using their phone numbers. This directory will make it easier for users to search external users by name and establish 1:1 or group chats with them. Additionally, users can view a company curated profile containing information such as location, job role, or business unit of external partners and assign an organization manager for them. The feature offers IT admins all compliance and security features available with Teams Connect chat. It is important to note that this feature requires tenant admin configuration, so there will be no impact unless the admin intends to use it. This feature is expected to roll out in early February 2024 and will complete by late February 2024.
