Microsoft 365 app: Use sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 apps when connected experiences are disabled

For organizations that have disabled connected experiences due to privacy concerns, using sensitivity labels in Microsoft 365 apps is still possible. The Microsoft Purview service, which includes sensitivity labels and rights management, is no longer subject to policy settings that manage privacy controls for Microsoft 365 Apps. Instead, these services can rely on existing security admin controls in Purview portals to ensure data security policies are not impacted. This update helps organizations to maintain privacy concerns while still staying compliant with security policies. The preview release for this update was made available in June 2024, with an official release expected in August of the same year. This feature is available on both desktop and cloud platforms through the worldwide (standard multi-tenant) instance.
