Retirement of Distribution List(DL) to Unified Group(UG) in EAC and PowerShell

Retirement of Distribution List(DL) to Unified Group(UG) in EAC and PowerShell

If you're an administrator who frequently uses Exchange Admin Center (EAC) or PowerShell to convert Distribution Lists (DL) to Unified Groups (UG), you should know that this feature will be retired come February 1, 2023. This means that the process of converting DLs to UGs using EAC or PowerShell will no longer be available when the change takes effect.

To prepare, Microsoft recommends that administrators upgrade their existing distribution lists to Microsoft 365 Groups in Exchange Online. It's important to note that this change only affects the capability to convert DLs to UGs using EAC or PowerShell; existing UGs will not be impacted.

To learn more about this change and how it will affect your organization, Microsoft advises admins to review additional information on Deprecating Conversion of Distribution Lists to Microsoft 365 Groups.

So if you're an administrator responsible for managing DLs and UGs, be sure to take note of this change and take the necessary steps to prepare your organization for the upcoming transition.
