New Outlook for Windows: Opening saved .eml, .msg, and .oft files

If you are a user of New Microsoft Outlook for Windows, you'll be pleased to know that in March 2024, Microsoft will be introducing support for opening email files saved with .eml, .msg, and .oft extensions.
The new release of Outlook for Windows will support the opening of saved email messages and reply to messages under .eml, .msg, and .oft formats, while online. You can open the files by clicking Open With from the Windows Explorer menu, dragging, and dropping files onto the Outlook Reading Pane or double-clicking files once they have been set as the default app for these file types.
Certain limitations will apply, however, as Outlook will only support saved .oft and .msg files that refer to an email message and users must have an active internet connection. Further support improvements for copying email messages in saved .eml, .msg, and .oft files to a mailbox and offline support are expected to roll out in subsequent releases.
Note that this rollout does not affect Outlook for the web or Outlook Mobile.
If you're a current user of Outlook for Windows, no action is required to prepare for this change. However, it may be helpful to notify other users in your organization about this upcoming change and to update any relevant documentation.
