Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook: Name pronunciation on the profile card

Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook: Name pronunciation on the profile card

Microsoft is introducing a name pronunciation feature to Microsoft Teams and Outlook, allowing users to record and share the correct pronunciation of their names on their profile cards. This feature promotes inclusivity and will be available from mid-November 2024 to mid-February 2025. Admins can activate it in Microsoft Graph. Incorrectly pronouncing a person's name can cause anxiety or offense, so having the ability to record and share name pronunciations creates a more inclusive environment. Pronunciation data is saved in each user's mailbox until they delete the recording. The feature is available for Teams for Windows desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, new Outlook for Windows desktop, and new Outlook for the web. Users can access profile cards by clicking a name in the To or From field of any sent or received email in Outlook or by selecting their profile photo and name in Teams. This feature is part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 420329.

Overall, this feature is a small but meaningful step that promotes inclusivity and creates a respectful work environment. It makes it easier for colleagues to correctly address one another and fosters a sense of community.
