Outlook: New Outlook for Windows – Automap shared mailboxes

The new Outlook for Windows comes with an exciting feature that automatically maps shared mailboxes. When a user is granted full access privileges to a shared mailbox in Microsoft Exchange Online, the new Outlook will mount the mailbox as a resource automatically under the account that was given full access. This feature, known as automapping, is designed to simplify the task of accessing shared mailboxes.

This change is slated to take effect under General Availability Release phase starting from August of CY2023. It will apply to both desktop and cloud platforms running on the Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) instance. Keep in mind that automapping already occurs by default, but the new Outlook will automate the process further, ensuring that users can access shared mailboxes without any extra steps.

For more information about this new feature and other exciting innovations in Microsoft 365, check out the official roadmap document for Outlook on the Microsoft website. Stay ahead of the curve and be one of the first to enjoy all the new features and functionality that the new Outlook for Windows has to offer.
