OneDrive: Sharing Experiences – Improved external sharing in the sharing control

OneDrive has announced an improvement to its external sharing feature in its latest update. Previously, users were required to go to the sharing settings and select the right link type before successfully sharing externally. However, the new experience will be a lot easier, as users who choose to share with an external person using a company link will be prompted to confirm their choice. Once confirmed, the link will automatically change to a “Specific People” link, and sharing can then proceed. If the link won't work for people outside of the user's organization, an error message will be displayed. The new experience respects the organization’s settings around external sharing and default link types. The update will be rolled out in phases with Targeted Release occurring from late May to early June and Standard Release happening from early June to late June. There is no action required from users at the moment, but it’s recommended to make users aware of the upcoming update.
