Viva Engage: Mute user for network

Microsoft Viva Engage is introducing a new feature called "mute user" starting in September 2024. This feature will give admins the ability to remove a user's posts from various feeds and email digests, without needing to take any action for the rollout since it will be available by default. This feature allows Network, Engage, and Global admins to add or remove a user from mute for network status. Muted users' posts will be removed from the Home feed, Storylines feed, and all email digests. While muted, new ThreadStarters cannot be seen in discovery surfaces, but comments and replies from muted users can be seen. Users and their content remain visible through search. Muting applies per user per network, and up to 1,000 users can be muted simultaneously per network. Admin activity related to muting users is captured in the user audit log for Engage.

This new feature is part of the Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 396168, and it will not affect the visibility of ThreadStarters, comments, or replies in community feeds. Muted users will not receive any indication that they have been muted, and there will be no notification when they are added or removed from mute status. Admins can only see who is muted within the admin center, so customers should own all internal communication around the use of this feature.

If you're a Network, Engage, or Global admin, you'll be able to add or remove users from mute for network status in the Engage admin center under the Governance and Compliance tab. It is recommended that you notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
