Updated Experience for Office Document Conflict Resolution in OneDrive Sync

In an effort to streamline the resolution of conflicts in Office documents, OneDrive is rolling out an updated approach to conflict resolution. Initially, users were given the option to open the file in the Office desktop app to merge changes or to keep both versions of the file (forking the document and appending the computer’s name to the forked file), however, this approach is being updated. Going forward, the only option for resolving conflicts will be to open the document in Office to merge changes. The option to fork the document will be removed entirely. This update will be rolled out to Windows and macOS users across the Production ring in August 2023. It is important to note that users will no longer be able to keep both versions of a document. Instead, they must open the changes in the corresponding Office desktop app to handle the conflict. If your organization teaches forked documents as a way to resolve sync conflicts, update your documentation to reflect this change.
