Upgrading Teams webinar users to new version
Microsoft Teams will be rolling out a new 'Webinar' meeting type replacement for the existing 'Add registrations to meetings' feature. The change is scheduled to take effect on June 30th, 2024, and teams' admins will not be able to assign the "-AllowMeetingRegistration" feature to new users after this date. Teams users with this policy will no longer be able to create any new meetings with registration post this date. The updated webinar experience offers better registration, additional email capabilities, smooth external presenter capabilities, access control, and much more.
Users who wish to create a webinar must use the new 'Webinar' meeting type, which can be found in the 'New Meeting' drop-down in Teams Calendar. Teams admins are encouraged to update their internal documentation to reflect the change as detailed documentation is available on the Microsoft Support website. The move to a more robust webinar experience has been well-received by customers, and the replacement of the 'Add registrations to meetings' feature will make it easier for users to create webinars.
For those who rely on the 'Add registrations to meetings' feature, it is essential to plan accordingly and start using the new webinar experience to avoid any disruptions come June 30th, 2024.
