Microsoft SharePoint Online: Create custom document library templates
Microsoft SharePoint Online is rolling out a new feature, custom document library templates, using PowerShell-based tooling that currently creates custom list templates. The rollout will begin to target release in early February 2024 and conclude by mid-February 2024. For the standard release, it will begin rolling out in late February 2024 and conclude by mid-March 2024.
Global Administrators or SharePoint Administrators in Microsoft 365 can offer custom list templates to users, including document library templates (template ID 101) and list templates (template ID 100). These templates will be visible in the new document library creation experience within SharePoint Home or SharePoint Site.
No action is needed to prepare for this change, and users should be notified about the change and relevant documentation updated accordingly.
For admins, the Add-SPOListDesign (Microsoft.Online.SharePoint.PowerShell) and Microsoft Learn are available resources, and for end-users, Custom list templates in SharePoint in Microsoft 365 is a useful resource.
