Reminder: Microsoft Office default change – Blocking VBA macros in files from the internet
If you use Microsoft Office, then you'll want to be aware of the new default change that is being implemented to block VBA macros in files from the internet. VBA macros are often used by cyber attackers as a way to distribute malware and ransomware. To improve security, Office applications, including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word, will now block macros in files from the internet (effective October 2022 for some channels, and January 2023 for others). This means that if a user opens or downloads an untrusted Office file containing macros, they will receive a message bar displaying a security risk, which will warn them that the file contains VBA macros obtained from the internet. Enterprises should evaluate their use of macros in files obtained from the internet to determine how this new default behavior will affect their users. The full details about how to get ready for this change can be found in this informative blog post.
