Microsoft Stream Web app: Downloading fixed in View mode

The Microsoft Stream Web app has fixed an issue reported by users where they were unable to download videos in View mode, despite having download permissions. A Download button has now been added in View mode for users with download permissions. This update is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 124992 (rolled out July 2023) and the message MC398248 (Updated) Microsoft Stream: Stream Web App (July 2022).
The rollout is targeted for completion in early February 2024 for Targeted Release, while Standard Release, GCC, GCC High, and DoD will begin to see the fix in early February 2024, with GCC High and DoD expected to have it completed by early May 2024. This update will enable users with View-only and download permissions to download videos as expected in the Stream Web app.
No action is required to prepare for this change, however, it may be a good idea to notify users and update relevant documentation as deemed necessary. For more information, check out the Overview of Stream (on SharePoint) and The Future of Video in Microsoft 365 - Microsoft Community Hub.
