Microsoft Purview Data loss prevention: debug tools activity now visible in managed app rules

Microsoft Purview DLP now visibly shows developer tools protection in managed app rules for Microsoft Edge for Business, improving admin transparency without changing enforcement. This update rolls out worldwide from mid-August to early September 2026. No user impact or required action; admins should update documentation accordingly. What and why We are improving transparency in Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for managed apps in Microsoft Edge for Business. The protection that blocks browser developer tools (debug tools) is always enforced by default for managed app scenarios. With this update, administrators will now see this protection explicitly displayed within applicable DLP rules in addition to it being applied behind the scenes. This change improves visibility and helps admins better understand how managed app protections are configured without changing existing enforcement behavior. It makes protection settings easier to review and validate. Rollout schedule Worldwide: Beginning mid-August 2026 and expected to complete by early September 2026 Impact on your organization Who is affected Administrators who create, edit, or review Microsoft Purview DLP policies that target managed apps (Enterprise applications and devices -> Managed cloud apps) in Microsoft Edge for Business Platforms and services Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention Microsoft Edge for Business Managed app protections What will happen The developer tools (debug tools) protection will appear as a visible activity within applicable managed app DLP rules. New managed app DLP rules will display the activity when created. Existing managed app DLP rules will display the activity after the next edit and save operation. DLP enforcement behavior is unchanged. Existing policies continue to function exactly as they do today. Users will experience no changes. Action required and recommendations No action is required.
