Control Inbox and Calendar Sharing Options in Outlook on the Web and in the New Outlook for Windows

Control Inbox and Calendar Sharing Options in Outlook on the Web and in the New Outlook for Windows

Outlook on the Web and the new Outlook for Windows enable users to share their mail and calendar with others at different permission levels. However, starting November 2023, tenant admins will have the option to turn off the ability for users to share inbox and calendar folders using the "Turn off folder sharing" feature in the Office Cloud Policy Service. This aligns with the existing capabilities available in Outlook for Windows (Win32) and allows users to block future sharing of inbox and calendar folders in OWA when the policy is enabled.

It's important to note that this policy only affects future sharing of inbox and calendar folders; existing users with permissions will not be affected. Admins that wish to continue allowing users to delegate their inboxes and calendars do not need to take any action. The rollout for this feature will begin in early November 2023 and complete by late November 2023.

To prepare for this change, it may be beneficial to update your training and documentation accordingly. For more information on applying cloud policy or sharing policies in Exchange Online, visit the links provided in the post.
