Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Updates to Sensitive Information Types (SITs) definitions

Microsoft Purview compliance portal will undergo an update to improve the accuracy of out-of-the-box sensitive information types (SIT). The update will occur starting from late February and is expected to end by mid-May. During this period, the definition of four existing SITs will be updated to align with the latest published definitions. The four sensitive information types to be affected by this update are: Commercial cloud availability, Government cloud availability, France CNI, U.S. ITIN, South Korea RRN, and Indonesia KTP. The changes in the sensitive information types (SIT) definition are expected to improve the accuracy and align them with the latest published definitions. The update will be carried out in phases with each SIT definition update expected to occur within a specified time frame from end of February to mid-May.

If your organization uses Microsoft's Purview compliance portal, these changes will directly impact you. It’s important to review the updated SIT definitions to ensure your sensitive information is properly classified and protected. It should be noted that the changes will only apply to new data discovered going forward, not existing data.
