Microsoft Purview is improving the user experience of opening locked records in Office applications by making them read-only. This update ensures that users will not make editing errors and aligns with the behavior of Office online versions. This feature will roll out from late June to late August, and no action is necessary from users to prepare for it. Previously, when an end user opened a locked record, they could edit and save changes, but SharePoint and OneDrive would reject the save. With this new update, locked records will open as read-only, so users cannot make changes, and a message will explain why. This brings parity to the behavior already in place for the online versions of Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). This feature will improve the end-user experience of opening locked records and prevent users from editing a file that cannot be saved, making their workflow smoother.
