Microsoft Purview: Data Security Posture Management with Copilot (preview)

The upcoming offering of Microsoft Purview's Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) with Copilot (preview) identifies vulnerable configurations in your crucial data assets, enabling quick corrective actions. By combining insights from Purview solution's user and data risk, it offers a holistic view of inadequate controls for safeguarding your data. Security and compliance administrators can leverage Microsoft Security Copilot's summarization and natural language features for effective action to address data security gaps. The public preview rollout is expected to begin in late November 2024 and end by late December 2025, with the plan for general availability yet to be announced.

After enabling DSPM, it automates a data security risk assessment of your tenant and presents a comprehensive report on the vulnerable areas and necessary action points. The dashboard displays top-line insights into the activities involving unprotected sensitive information. Additionally, policy recommendations for implementing a protective shield are provided to mitigate the top data security risks. Security Copilot embedded in DSPM empowers data security administrators to investigate deeper into dashboard insights and manage data security posture more efficiently. It unlocks insights across various dimensions such as activities, files, devices, users, departments, or regions.

The prerequisites to access DSPM are a Microsoft 365 E5 or Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance license, opting in to DSPM in the Purview portal- Data Security Posture Management (preview). Alternatively, enabling DLP analytics or IRM analytics, which will automatically enable DSPM, is necessary.
