ActiveX will be disabled by default in Microsoft Office 2024

ActiveX will be disabled by default in Microsoft Office 2024

Starting October 2024, ActiveX objects will be disabled by default on Win32 desktop versions of Microsoft's Office 2024 suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio. This change comes into effect in April 2025 for Microsoft 365 apps. Users will have to re-enable ActiveX by changing the Trust Center Settings, the registry, or the group policy settings. The default configuration setting for ActiveX objects will change from 'Prompt me before enabling all controls with minimal restrictions' to 'Disable all controls without notification'. After the change takes place, users will no longer be able to create or interact with ActiveX objects in Office documents, although some existing ActiveX objects will still be visible as static images. Non-commercial SKUs of Office will display a notification when an ActiveX object is blocked by the new default behavior. Users can opt to revert back to the previous default behavior by adjusting the Trust Center Settings, the registry, or the group policy settings.
