Microsoft Graph API is generally available in v1.0 to manage username, group names, and site names
The Microsoft Graph API v1.0 has been made available for managing usernames, group names, and site names, according to a recent update. Global admins can change name display settings in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Two new APIs, 'update admin report settings' and 'get admin report settings,' will be released shortly. These APIs enable Global admins to customize how usernames, group names, and site names are represented in the Microsoft 365 admin center in line with their organization’s privacy practices. The default setting for group, user and site names is anonymous. These upcoming APIs make it simple for organizations to change display settings without manually updating the Org settings > Services > Reports. However, when this setting is changed, administrative and report reader roles with access to user/group/site level information can view identifiable user-level data. Changing the Org settings > Reports setting via the Graph API or Graph user interface is a logged event in the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center Audit log.
Global admins need the necessary permission to use the update admin report setting API. The rollout of Microsoft Graph API v1.0 for managing names will commence in early August and end in mid-August. This feature is accessible to all Global admins with the appropriate permissions. No admin action is required before the rollout, although users may want to update their documentation and notify users of this change.
