Microsoft 365 admin center will support Tenant restriction v2
The Microsoft 365 admin center is set to roll out Tenant Restriction v2, a feature that will increase security by controlling user access via external accounts. This feature is part of cross-tenant access settings that are designed to address cross-company exchange security concerns. The rollout of Tenant Restriction v2 will happen automatically by late December 2024, and will be off by default. Admins will have the option of enabling Tenant Restriction v2 to pave the way for effective data plane protection. This new feature will help prevent data exfiltration via foreign identities, making it an essential tool for any organization looking to enhance its data security. To take advantage of Tenant Restriction v2 in the Microsoft 365 admin center, admins will need to create a cross-tenant access setting. This update requires no admin action prior to rollout, but organizations should still review their current configuration to understand the impact of the upcoming changes on their organization.
The rollout is supported by Microsoft Entra ID for authentication plane protection, and configuration details can be found on the Microsoft Learn webpage. With Tenant Restriction v2, admins are given greater control over what users can access when signing in with external accounts. This feature will send signals to Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Account, and other Microsoft resources to ensure that the environment is secure and that data exfiltration is prevented. Stay tuned for this update, which will provide enhanced data security to organizations using Microsoft 365 admin center.
