Excited to be at JavaOne 2022 in person!
Last month, I wrote about our commitment to the success of Java developers and the launch of our new website. Alongside much Microsoft Ignite excitement, this month, our engineers, and developer advocates are travelling to Java developer conferences, talking about our Java offerings and learning from interactions with you. I, too, am looking forward to meeting you next week at Oracle’s flagship Java developer conference – JavaOne in Las Vegas.
I will be a part of JavaOne’s technical keynote on Day 2 of the conference (Oct 19 at 1:15 PM), where I will talk about how several Microsoft products and divisions run on Java and how we empower Java developers at one of our customer organizations to achieve truly relevant business impact.
We’re grateful to the Oracle team for their partnership at JavaOne and more broadly around enabling Oracle WebLogic Server on Azure. Partnerships with Oracle and others have helped Microsoft offer an end-to-end cloud experience for Java developers. Mark Heckler, Cloud Developer Advocate at Microsoft, will join me on stage with a demo showcasing how Java developers can take full advantage of the ease, scale, and security capabilities across GitHub and Azure.
We have an exciting line-up of sessions for you along with booth-talks and two technical demo stations at our booth. Our booth-talk line-up includes a talk by Xialin Zhu and Jesse Jie from the Java engineering team at LinkedIn where they will share details of how they recently migrated over 300,000 JVM instances from Java 8 to Java 11 and observed a 26% improvement in throughput.
Contributing to the Java community is very important to us. We have a dedicated group working on Microsoft Build of OpenJDK and optimizing it for Java workloads on Azure and various internal business needs, while also upstreaming patches (full Windows on Arm Port, work on the Apple Silicon port, etc.) to the OpenJDK. More recently, Reza Rehman, Principal Program Manager on my team was elected to the steering committee for Jakarta EE for 2022-23 – an endorsement of the trust that the Jakarta EE ecosystem has in Microsoft. Reza will be at JavaOne as well - at the booth and delivering sessions.
Below is our line-up of sessions and booth talks. I hope you will join us at JavaOne. I look forward to seeing you there.
Best, Julia Liuson
