(Updated) CrowdStrike issue impacting Windows endpoints causing an error message on a blue screen

If you're encountering an error message of a blue screen when attempting to run CrowdStrike Falcon agent on Windows clients or servers, this post will keep you updated on the latest updates regarding the ongoing issue. Microsoft has been working with CrowdStrike to improve resiliency across the Windows ecosystem and provide guidance on best practices to support resiliency in organizations. To expedite the repair process for IT admins, Microsoft has released KB5042426, a step-by-step guide for Windows Servers hosted on-premises running the Falcon agent. In addition, a new USB Recovery Tool is available for download in the Microsoft Download Center.

In response to customer feedback, Microsoft has also released an updated recovery tool with two repair options, including a new option for recovery using safe boot, the ability to generate ISO or USB, a fix for ADK detection when the Windows Driver Kit is installed, and a fix for the USB disk size check. If the device is still unable to recover with the two previous options, IT admins can use PXE to remediate. For Windows 11 and Windows 10 clients, an updated KB5042421 Knowledge Base article with additional step-by-step guidance is now available.

Stay tuned for further updates on the CrowdStrike issue impacting Windows endpoints and follow Microsoft's guidance for relevant best practices and recovery tools.
