Multiple Yammer Networks Within Single Tenant No Longer Supported (1:Many Mode)

Multiple Yammer Networks Within Single Tenant No Longer Supported (1:Many Mode)

In a bid to make Yammer networks more closely integrated with Microsoft 365, Microsoft has decided to discontinue the support of tenants having multiple non-external Yammer networks. This change is aimed at ensuring Yammer networks align with Microsoft 365 tenants' organizational boundaries. The integration of Yammer into the Microsoft 365 ecosystem has been a multi-year effort, and new 1:many configurations haven't been allowed since October 2018. Since January 2020, all newly provisioned Yammer networks have been created in Native Mode, the enforcement of which was announced in September 2022. Automated network consolidation is a prerequisite for gaining access to broader safety, security, and compliance features. Starting from May 1, 2023, and extending through May 1, 2024, automated network consolidation will occur, and users will lose access to all secondary Yammer networks. The consolidation should be done manually to avoid losing data and enable network administrators to choose which primary domain will be associated with the remaining network, which will be upgraded to Native Mode post-consolidation.

If your organization is affected by this change, it is strongly advised to perform a full data export of your networks and initiate the network consolidation on your own before or after May 1, 2023, to prevent any data loss. Microsoft partners are available to help with migrating data from the secondary networks. By consolidating networks into 1:1 alignment with Microsoft 365, they will be upgraded to Native Mode, providing access to the latest features in Yammer and ensuring content is included in Microsoft Purview's compliance and security features.
