Zero-Touch App Install (ZTI) is a feature in Microsoft Teams that helps users discover and use apps relevant to their needs. It uses user activity to install and surface the apps that admins have allowed for the tenant. This means that when a user signs into specific SaaS apps using Azure AD, the app will be installed for that user on Teams. Admins can turn on this feature to ensure that the right apps are provided to the right users at the right time without any manual intervention.
By enabling ZTI, admins respect app governance and have control over which apps are allowed. Installs will only happen for allowed apps, and blocked apps and users will not have the apps installed. This feature facilitates last-mile delivery by helping admins easily roll out apps to the right users. It also ensures cross-platform convenience by providing users with the same apps across multiple platforms and helps users discover the apps they need without manually searching in the app store.
The ZTI feature requires no action from users; admins simply need to turn it on to maximize the value of their SaaS licenses. The same app is made available on multiple platforms, making it easy for users to access apps they are currently using on other platforms, now in Teams. This feature will begin rollout on May 1, 2023, and admins can turn it on after that date if they are not currently in public preview.
The Teams admin center also features a new App permissions section in every app's detail page, displaying the app permissions. Admins can conveniently view app permissions, which may assist in reviewing the apps supported by ZTI.
