Private Team Discovery

Admins of organizations using Microsoft Teams can now control the discoverability of private teams for end-users. Through a simple toggle, administrators can enable private teams to be discoverable for all or scoped end-users, allowing them to search for private teams through the "Join team gallery" in the Teams client. However, end-users will still need to send a join request for approval to the team owner. The rollout of this feature will take place in late October 2023 for Targeted Release and early January 2024 for Standard Release. Admins will have the power to control the discoverability of private teams, either by scoping it to a set of users using the Teams Admin Center policy setting, or by applying sensitivity label settings through the Compliance portal to make teams discoverable as per the sensitivity label. To prepare, admins must turn on the Teams Admin Center policy for the Compliance policy sensitivity label policies to take effect. This feature helps improve collaboration within teams while maintaining admin control and confidentiality.
