Introducing “Microsoft Default” setting to Teams Tag Management Settings

Introducing “Microsoft Default” setting to Teams Tag Management Settings

Teams Admin Center is introducing a new feature- "Microsoft Default" setting to Teams Tag Management settings, that will enable tenants to have a better preference option. If you have already made changes to Tag Management Settings, the new feature won't affect your tenant. If you haven't made any changes, Microsoft Default settings will apply, which currently map to "Team Owners" value. But this value is subject to change in the future. As an admin, select tag management settings that reflect tenant-level preference. Teams client users will still see the same two options - "Team Owners" and "Team owners and members". Microsoft plans to roll out the feature in late June 2023 with completion expected by mid-July 2023. The change will not affect your organization if you have explicitly selected Tag Management settings. However, as an admin, you must set the preferred tag management setting to your tenant's liking to avoid future complications. Non-owner students can't manage tags if Tenant level settings are Team Owners or Microsoft Default, provided you are an EDU tenant. Explicit and preferred tenant settings will always be respected over Microsoft Default settings. To change tag management settings, sign in to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
