Manage web searches in Copilot separately from optional connected experiences with new policy
Microsoft is set to introduce a new policy in November 2024 which will allow separate management of web searches in Microsoft 365 Copilot from other optional connected experiences. The 'Allow web search in Copilot' policy will allow for improved Copilot responses using Bing search service which can be configured at a user/group level. This new policy will offer more ways to manage web search in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot, including the ability to manage web search separately from other optional connected experiences. The move will allow Copilot to reference web content via web search, which will improve the quality of responses through grounding them in the latest information from the web via the Bing search service. However, if the 'Allow web search in Copilot' policy is not configured, web search in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot will be determined by the existing OCE policy setting. This new policy will be available from the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center at config.office.com when it becomes available in early November 2024.
Overall, this new policy gives more control over the use of web searches in Copilot and marks a step in the direction of offering more customized experiences to users.
