Microsoft Teams: Meeting recordings are now saved in organizer’s Microsoft OneDrive

If you're an avid user of Microsoft Teams, this update might interest you. Microsoft has announced that, starting May 2024, meeting recordings on Teams will be saved to the organizer's OneDrive account by default. This rollout is aimed at ensuring recordings are governed by the organizer's meeting setup and policies. In the event that the organizer does not have OneDrive provisioned, the recording fails to upload successfully or the OneDrive account is out of capacity, the recording will be accessible from the recording link in the meeting chat.

Deployment of this update will vary depending on service availability, with rollout from mid-May to late August 2024. However, admins can use the PowerShell policy 'TeamsRecordingRollOutPolicy' for special situations. End-users are not expected to be significantly affected, but admins may need to update their documentation.

This update aligns with Microsoft's drive for better compliance and IT admin oversight. If you're keen on preserving your Teams meeting recordings, ensure you have a OneDrive account provisioned to avoid any issues arising from the change.
