Microsoft Defender for Office empowers end users to report suspicious messages in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Defender for Office empowers end users to report suspicious messages in Microsoft Teams

In a significant update to Microsoft Teams security, users of the platform will soon be able to report messages that contain phishing, spam, or other malicious content.

This change, set to go live in early June, will empower users to report suspicious messages in real-time and in-platform, helping administrators to take quick action to mitigate any potential threats. However, this new functionality will only be available to Microsoft Defender Plan 2 and Microsoft E5/Office E5 customers.

Teams administrators will have control over whether users can report security messages within the Teams Admin Center, with Microsoft providing the toggle setting so admins can opt-out of the automatic on-by-default configuration or define other reporting policies. The opt-out period will be provided for a minimum of 30 days, after which the Teams client will provide end users the ability to report messages as a security concern based on the toggle's setting.

It's important to note that reports of security concerns will be acted upon in line with the organization's user-reported settings, and if a report is sent to Microsoft, everything associated with the message will be copied, including the content, message headers, files, URLs, and related data.

To stay ahead of threats in Teams, it's essential to prepare by understanding how this update will affect your organization and providing feedback to Microsoft as required.
